For 40 years in the Telugu film industry, Late BA Raju was a dominant figure as a film journalist, publicist, editor of a film weekly and website, and producer, becoming the go-to person for all things related to cinema. On the occasion of his 65th birthday (January 7), his admirers and colleagues are remembering him fondly.
BA Raju began his career in the film industry as a Public Relations Officer, handling publicity for Superstar Krishna. Encouraged by Krishna, he then became a successful film journalist. Having worked in various positions at Andhra Jyothi, Jyothi Chitra, Udayam, and Shiva Ranjani (all of which are dailies), he co-founded the immensely successful weekly Super Hit in 1994 with his wife B Jaya, making a mark in the Telugu film media. He managed the publication for 27 years.
Not just a film journalist, Raju also became a guide and mentor for top directors, actors, and actresses, shaping their careers. He worked as a publicity in-charge for over 1500 films, contributing to their success. Raju built strong, friendly bonds across the industry, earning a reputation as a person with no enemies.
In 2001, he entered the production field with his wife B. Jaya as the director, producing Premalo Pavani Kalyan under the RJ Cinemas banner. He brought successful films like Chantigadu, Premikula Roju, Gundamma Katha, Savaal, Lovely, and Vaishakham to the Telugu audience.
He and his team provided regular updates about the film industry. His son, Shivkumar B, is set to produce films under the RJ Cinemas banner.
Despite having close relationships with everyone in the industry, BA Raju was particularly known for his strong bond with evergreen Superstar Krishna and Mahesh Babu. He also served as the president of the Film Critics Association. For film journalists in times of trouble, he was always there, offering both financial and moral support. He could easily recall intricate details about any director, actor, or film, including their banner names, release dates, and box office performance.
