Back in July 1993, Andhra Bhoomi published a front-page speculative story on NT Rama Rao and Chiranjeevi's alleged secret meet-up in a foreign country. As per the report, NTR invited Chiru to lead the state unit of the Telugu Desam Party and eventually become the CM of then-united Andhra Pradesh. NTR presumably wanted to do it because he was eyeing expanding his role in central politics. The report also claimed that one of NTR's sons-in-law was against the proposal, while another was in favour of it.
The report is too bizarre and exaggerated not to beggar belief. NTR was too politically seasoned to ask an inexperienced celebrity like Chiranjeevi to lead the show.
The sensational and incredibly strange nature of the newspaper report goes to show that over-the-top clownery in journalism preceded the advent of private 24/7 news channels and immature YouTube channels that put up juicy thumbnails every other hour. While NTR and Chiranjeevi had good relations, they were never veered into the realm of politics.
