Following the box office success of Don and Doctor (both Tamil movies), Sivakarthikeyan's remuneration reportedly rose to Rs 35 crore. This increase positioned him significantly higher than contemporaries like Dhanush, who was charging approximately Rs 15 crore, and Simbu, who was charging Rs 8 crore. The subsequent demand for Rs 30 crore by other actors reflects Sivakarthikeyan's influence in setting new industry benchmarks, an industry observer recently said.
The Tamil film industry's heroes have been accused of over-charging fees like anything. But Rs 35 crore for a medium-range hero is bizarre even by Kollywood's standards.
Bollywood heroes' greed is believed to be one of the reasons why Hindi movies used to incur huge losses when they flopped before the pandemic. Since 2021, the situation has palpably changed, with producers not giving in to the unfair demands of actors who have nearly zero theatrical pull. Recently, Tollywood producer Dil Raju said that big-ticket movies have started adopting the revenue-sharing model instead of the remuneration model.
Sivakarthikeyan is currently doing Madharasi with director AR Murugadoss. Parasakthi is another of his upcoming movies. Last year, he acted in Amaran, Ayalaan and was seen in a cameo in Vijay's The GOAT.
