Director Shankar said in his first interview since the release of Game Changer that the film had to be trimmed to the tune of 75 minutes. The director had five hours of footage. Many scenes that might have made a better impact had to be chopped off to bring the film's running time down to 2 hours and 45 minutes. Probably that's why two Editors were on the thankless job of editing the movie.
Game Changer was in the making for 3.5 years. It went on the floors a good six months after it was announced in February 2021. If you take into consideration this 6-month period, there was a gap of four years between the announcement and theatrical release. Does Shankar's explanation cut with you? It is ridiculous that a formulaic film like Game Changer couldn't be planned systematically.
Filmmakers like Sukumar and Rajamouli have taken more time than they should have, but their inrodinate delays have resulted in better products. Rangasthalam, the Pushpa movies, Baahubali 2 and RRR were delayed by nearly a year or even more. Those filmmakers didn't plan the output in such a way that important scenes had to be removed out of no choice.
