When it comes to celebrating the film events, TFI takes pride in honoring top film personalities from other states. The recent Santhosham Awards function is the best example. But it did not happen in the case of many celebrities during the recent 100 Years of Indian Cinema celebrations. As known to all, the event does not belong to one state but all four industries together celebrated it in Chennai. So, in this regard, several seniors in TFI have expressed their displeasure for not getting due respects at 100 Years of Indian Cinema celebrations. Dasari Narayana Rao, Krishna, Vijaya Nirmala, Kodanda Ramireddy, Kavitha and several others were annoyed by the irresponsible approach of the organizing committee. And those who have attended the function also seemingly returned expressing their unhappiness for the treatment received by them.
Recently senior actress Kavitha almost burst into tears saying, “My film journey started three decades ago as a child artist and gradually turned into a heroine and now as a character artist. I’m not living far from the film industry. I’m still active in the industry. I worked with all leading heroes and directors in all four languages in South. I worked as a heroine in more than 130 films and over 150 films as a character artist. Even today I’m continuing as an actress. Several people from other languages are calling me and asking why I’ve not attended the 100 Years of Indian Cinema celebrations. But it’s embarrassing to say that I was not invited. I still don’t understand why the organizing committee has not recognized me as an actress. I felt don’t I deserve the respect from the industry as a senior artist. It’s not just me, several senior artists have not received invitations. Those who have just entered the film industry received good attention. Several films of mine have celebrated Jubilee functions. Trend of groupism is currently going on in the industry. There is no respect for the artists. It’s just that one needs to be smart enough to get their work done.”
Much against Mohan Babu’s letter to AP Film Chamber of Commerce, asking the Telugu film industry not to participate in the 100 Years of Indian Cinema celebrations, due to the burning state of bifurcation of AP, his daughter Lakshmi Manchu made her presence felt at the event in Chennai.
