'The Kerala Story' has been boycotted in Tamil Nadu and banned in West Bengal. In TN, exhibitors pulled out of the movie voluntarily. They believed that protests might go out of control, damaging property. In Bengal, the TMC government clamped a ban officially.
There is a fear that the Bollywood film, which is billed to make more than Rs 200 Cr (NBOC) in its lifetime run, will be banned in a few other States ruled by non-BJP parties. Congress is in power in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and AAP in Punjab. "These States might ban the movie as a political gesture. The film is safe in States like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where the politicization of cinema is not deep-rooted," a commentator opined.
'The Kerala Story' has been exempted from paying entertainment tax in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
