On Thursday, senior playback singer cum music director Susarla Dakshinamurthy passed away at his residence in Chennai. Dakshina Murthy was suffering from age related ailment for quite some time and passed away on Thursday. He was 90 and is survived by a son.
Dakshinamurthy worked as an assistant to music director CR Subbaraman and turned music director in 1946 with ‘Narada Naradi’. 1950’s ‘Samsaram’ was his first musical hit film with the ever green song ‘Samsaram Samsaram’ sung by Ghantasala in Telugu and AM Raja in Tamil. He introduced Lata Mangeshkar to Telugu film industry through the most popular song ‘Nidurapora Thammuda…’ from the film ‘Santhanam’. He is well known for his most popular musical scores in Late NTR’s ‘Nartanasala’. Apart from this, ‘Laila Majnu’ and ‘Samsaram’ also earned him enough popularity. Altogether Dakshinamurthi worked in 135 films in different South Indian languages and his last film was also Late NTR’s ‘Srimad Virat Veerabrahmendra Swami Charitra’ in 1984.
