The first-day worldwide gross box office collections are followed fervently by movie-goers and reported passionately by trade pundits in India. Here is a breakdown of the biggest worldwide openers by major Indian film industries. (Note: The figures are as per the BO tracker, Andhra Box Office):
Tollywood: Pushpa 2 - Rs 274 Cr+ (it overtook RRR)
Sandalwood: KGF2 - Rs 163 Cr
Kollywood: Coolie - Rs 154 Cr+
Bollywood: Adipurush - Rs 131 Cr
Mollywood: L2: Empuraan - Rs 63 Cr
Southern cinema is leading the charge in drawing massive audiences and generating unprecedented revenue on Day 1.
Prabhas-starrer Adipurush and Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie are the only standalone films in the list. Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2, Yash's KGF 2 and Mohanlal's L2 were sequels belonging to different genres.
Pushpa 2, KGF 2 and L2 were in for the long haul. They were also extremely profitable ventures. On the other hand, Adipurush couldn't hold onto to its mind-blowing start at the box office. As for Coolie, the jury is still out.
