It is known that playback singer Kalpana was found lying in an unconscious state on Tuesday night at her residence in Hyderabad.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Kalpana took sleeping pills in excessive doses in the afternoon. Her husband, Prasad, tried to reach her on the phone in the evening. Despite repeated calls, they all went unanswered. Prasad called up a neighbour, asking him to check on his wife. Since she didn't open the doors of her Nizampet residence, police were informed about the same. Two constables barged into her house and ferried her to a nearby private hospital by 6pm.
Kalpana was treated in the ICU throughout the night. She is now in a stable condition and is conscious. The police have already started questioning Prasad. Later today, Kalpana's statement will be recorded by the local Sub-Inspector.
Why Kalpana attempted to die by suicide is not known. Her family members have stated that she had been depressed. Her elder daughter rushed to Hyderabad from Kerala. A few of Kalpana's industry colleagues have visited the hospital.
