Lately, Buy1 Get1 offers on tickets have been offered by national multiplex chains for Hindi movies. The offers don't kick in late. They come into vogue right from Day 4 of even medium-range movies, not just small ones. The trend only goes to show that Bollywood is in the doldrums. As it is, PVR-Inox, the biggest national multiplex chain, has been posting losses.
"Buy1 Get1 should ideally kick in late, say, in the 4th or 5th week of a film's release. Ideally, such an offer is meant for blockbuster films that want to attract additional footfalls as much as they can before the end of their theatrical run. However, these days, films like 'Bad Newz' are announcing such offers right from the first week," says a box-office analyst.
Bollywood's woes continue to trouble it. Even movies featuring stalwarts like Akshay Kumar are bombing continuously at the BO. In this scenario, how much can Buy1 Get1 type of offers help the Hindi film industry?
