As children, most of us wondered why we couldn't get a refund for shorter movies or movies we left midway. This fantasy is now becoming a reality, with PVR Inox introducing the concept of Flexi Shows in Delhi and Gurugram. In due course of time, the experiment will be scaled up in Tier-I cities like Hyderabad.
If you leave a movie after the interval, you will get a 50% refund on your ticket money. QR code mechanism has been used to make the refund experience hassle-free. The 'Pay only for what you watch' model is already in force for certain limited shows. "The audience will have to opt for the Flexi Show feature for an additional 10% premium on the ticket price," a report says.
"Using AI-driven video analytics, the system tracks viewing time to calculate refunds. Viewers opting for this feature pay a 10% premium but gain the flexibility to leave midway and pay only for time watched," a report by Business Standard says.
PVR Inox's main aim has been to benefit from patrons buying Foods and Beverages during the interval. If the new scheme affects its bottom line, it might be tweaked in such a way that the F&B review doesn't stand affected.
