Director Sukumar's speech at the Hyderabad event of 'Pushpa 2' defied many assumptions that have been made by the audience for the past five years.
On the occasion, he revealed that he had no story in mind when he called on Allu Arjun (about six years ago) for the first time. "I merely narrated two scenes and Bunny's excitement for the project motivated me to develop a story," Sukumar said. For years, many have believed that Sukumar had written this story beforehand and that 'Pushpa' was first offered to Mahesh Babu.
It has been assumed that turning 'Pushpa' into a duology was always on the mind of Sukumar. The director once stated in an interview that the central idea of a red sanders smuggling emerging as a force to reckon with (this was not called 'Pushpa' at first) was so elaborate and large in scope that he thought of making it as a web series first. However, in his latest speech, Sukumar said that it was Mythri Movie Makers' CEO Cherry who proposed the idea of dividing 'Pushpa' into two parts. In other words, it was an afterthought.
Many assumptions the audience and film observers make about too many movies are wrong. A lot of choices happen on the go, including about the climaxes and screenplay pattern of movies. Some work and others don't. When an idea works big-time, everyone calls it a stroke of genius.
