Jason Sanjay, the son of Kollywood superstar Vijay, is all set to make his directorial debut in 2026. The film is headlined by Sundeep Kishan. Lyca Productions is bankrolling it.
In what must be called the most unabashed display of nepotism, Lyca Productions is calling the movie #JS01, which stands for Jason Sanjay's first movie. Its official title is coming out shortly but this temporary (fortunately) reference is grating.
No debutant director has had this privilege of his maiden venture being named after his initials on social media. The production house could have totally avoided using #JS01 and directly gone in for the actual title announcement. Yet, the company decided to pander to Vijay's fan base.
Jason Sanjay comes from the family of a superstar, no less. But that doesn't mean he has to be seen as a star director despite having no hit to his credit. Aryan Khan, the son of Shah Rukh Khan, recently made his directorial debut without everyone at Netflix pandering to SRK's fan base. The Mumbai cinema culture is superior in a number of ways, something the hero-worshipping southern cinema culture won't be able to appreciate.
