Robinhood trouble?: Women's Commission raises concerns over 'Inappropriate' dance moves

The Telangana State Women's Commission today stated that it has lately received "several complaints stating that some dance moves in cinema songs are inappropriate and demeaning to women". The statement comes days after many criticized a hook steep in Adhi Dha Surprisu song from Robinhood.

"Since cinema is a powerful medium that influences society, any elements that insult or portray women in an indecent manner are causing serious concern," the Commission suggested, urging filmmakers, producers, choreographers, and others to act responsibly. "Dance steps that belittle women or are indecent should be immediately stopped. If this warning is not followed, the Commission is ready to take strict action as per the relevant laws," the Commission added.

"The film industry has an ethical responsibility to deliver positive messages to society and to protect the dignity of women. Keeping in mind the impact that movies have on the youth and children, the film industry needs to practice self-regulation," it said.

Although there are rumours that the Commission has asked the makers of Robinhood (starring Nithiin and Sreeleela) to remove the "objectionable" hook step, it is not clear whether Mythri Movie Makers has received a notice.
