Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: Positive reviews marred by critical takes

Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar (Hindi) was released today in theatres. Directed by Aditya Dhar, it is a high-octane spy thriller inspired by real events like the IC-814 Kandahar hijack and subsequent terror attacks. The film features a stellar ensemble including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun.

Initial reviews are critical in not-so-surprising ways. The 3-hour-34-minute length feels dragged in the second half, with some calling it a "build-up" heavy film that saves big reveals for the sequel. A few noted "slow portions" and "unnecessary bloody sequences." Described as "wafer-thin" or "uneven" by a minority, with familiar patriotic tropes and a stylized treatment of real events that can feel trivialized. Romance elements and certain flashbacks are hit-or-miss.

Visual issues like soft 2K presentation, shaky cam in action, CGI flaws (e.g., car crashes), and editing errors (abrupt cuts, chroma key problems) were flagged in detailed X reviews. One user called the forest climax "low quality".

For the most part, though, the reviews are positive. Engaging setup with shocking twists, a killer climax, and a post-credit scene teasing Part 2 are mentioned as highlights. Dhurandhar balances mass appeal, emotions, and a "new India" revenge narrative without feeling preachy, forcing viewers to "Google historical events" for deeper investment, reviews have said.
