Some male actors in Hollywood likely adopt feminist rhetoric to enhance their public image, as it aligns with prevailing cultural expectations and can boost their appeal to audiences and industry gatekeepers. The pressure to appear socially conscious is strong in an industry where perception shapes opportunities.
Actress Malavika Mohanan has accused some Indian male actors of doing a similar performative feminism for a good image. Speaking to Hauterrfly, Malavika Mohanan said that the film industry continues to be a place full of disparities. "I also think that men have really gotten smart, and I have seen this in a lot of male actors, suddenly, in the last 5–6 years, they know how to put on the mask of being woke. Once they are off from the public spotlight, they go back to their misogynistic ways," the actress said.
Malavika Mohanan is currently doing Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab. The film co-stars Nidhhi Agerwal and Riddhi Kumar. Malavika is also known for Rajinikanth's Petta and Thalapathy Vijay's Master.
