'Vedaa', starring John Abraham as former Major Abhimanyu Kanwar, Sharvari as Vedaa Berwa and Abhishek Banerjee as Jitendar Pratap Singh, was released in theatres yesterday (August 15). In this section, let's find out what film critics are saying about it.

The Hindustan Times said that the film is a commentary on the caste system. "It gets you thinking, delivers a hard-hitting message," the critic there wrote. The titular character in 'Vedaa' comes from a Dalit family.

In its review, NDTV opined, "Several aspects of 'Vedaa', a violent caste oppression thriller directed by Nikkhil Advani from a screenplay by Aseem Arrora, sets it apart from run-of-the-mill Bollywood action movies. That is not to say it does not have its share of cliches."

The Hindu opined that John Abraham’s socially-conscious action entertainer does not stay the distance. "Despite a solid turn by Sharvari, Nikkhil Advani’s attempt to give a real social issue a larger-than-life treatment creates an uneven impact," film reviewer Anuj Kumar wrote.

'Vedaa' grossed Rs 6.25 Cr on its opening day at the box office. It was almost crushed by its chief Bollywood competitor, 'Stree 2'.
