Abhishek Pictures today said that they lost Rs 8 Cr because of 'World Famous Lover' (2020), which they distributed in the Telugu States. The movie, starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead, was a colossal flop.
The distribution house, owned by Abhishek Nama, today asked Vijay to save the exhibitors and distributors who lost heavily due to the movie. "We lost Rs 8 Cr in the distribution of 'World Famous Lover', but no one responded over it. Now that you are donating Rs 1 cr to the families (of your fans) with your big heart, we kindly request you and hope for you to save us and our exhibitors and distributors' families also," the banner tweeted.
The tweet has sparked a major row, with Vijay's fans arguing that cinema is purely a business transaction. "If you lose money, it is entirely on you. You can't expect the hero of the movie to compensate you," a fan wrote.
In an interview in 2021, Abhishek Nama said that Vijay was not accessible after the movie was released. "On 'WFL', we lost 90% of our investment. It was a terrible disaster that saddened me a lot," he added at that time.
