Vijay Deverakonda is an Indian film star, film producer and media personality recognized mainly for his work in Telugu cinema. He made his debut in 2011 with Ravi Babu's romantic comedy Nuvvila (2011), but received acclaim with his supporting role in the upcoming drama Yevade Subramanyam (2015).
In the 2016 romantic comedy Pelli Choopulu, winner of the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu and the Filmfare Award for Best Film-Telugu, Vijay achieved stardom.
Vijay progressively developed himself as a best actor in Telugu cinema by playing a leading role in critical and commercial successes such as Arjun Reddy (2017), Mahanati (2018), Geetha Govindam (2018), and Taxiwaala (2018), some of which rank among Telugu's top-rated films.
He has received many accolades for his role in Arjun Reddy, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. In 2019, he earned the South Indian Foreign Movie Critics Award for Best Actor and was also nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for his performance in Geetha Govindam.
He owns a film production business, King of the Hill Movies, and was included in their 2019, 30 Under 30 list by Forbes India. According to Google's annual search engine survey, in 2019 he became the most sought-after South Indian actor.
Vijay Deverakonda was born to the Madhavi Deverakonda, and Govardhana Rao. His father was a TV actor, and his younger brother is a movie actor. Deverakonda says his father used to label him a rowdy every time he did something they didn't approve of. With time, he and his followers continued to use the term for themselves.
Vijay is considered to be confident in voicing forward his opinions on stage or interviews, and has garnered a great deal of attention (some of which were even critical in nature). His speech at the 2017 Arjun Reddy audio conference, where he taught Censor board openly and became a rage among young people and shot him overnight to prominence.
He shouted the cuss words that were censored in the movie to the hundreds of young people and requested them to do the same in the theaters while his speech was silenced.
Early life and struggle (2011–2015):
Deverakonda made his film debut by featuring in the romantic comedy Nuvvila by Ravi Babu in 2011, and then portrayed a slight cameo role in Life is Beautiful by Sekhar Kammula. Both films were decently successful but didn't give much recognition to Deverakonda. Then at the time, he was introduced to an assistant producer, Nag Ashwin, who later cast him alongside actor Nani in a supporting role for the 2015 film Yevade Subramanyam. The film proved to be a critical and commercial success, and Deverakonda received strong praise for his language, strength, and performance in the film. This film eventually brought him a much sought after break in Telugu cinema.
Development and Success (2015–present)
In Pelli Choopulu, a romantic entertainer from the beginning directed by Tharun Bhasker Dhaassyam, Vijay's first lead appearance was with Ritu Varma as the female star. The film was commercially popular And won the Telugu Best Feature Film at the 64th National Film Awards and the Telugu Best Film Award. He was praised for his realistic portrayal of a lazy and impassioned chef.
He then appeared in 2017's Dwaraka, a masala entertainer. His next film Arjun Reddy got both appreciation and condemnation for being very controversial and brazen. The depiction of Vijay as a self-destructive, short-tempered and intoxicated surgeon earned critical acclaim, which led him to earn multiple awards, including the Best Actor Film Award-Telugu.
After Arjun Reddy, Ye Mantram Vesave was postponed for 5 years, and finally released. It got weak feedback from reviewers and at the box office couldn't go far. He then acted in Mahanati, a film about the life of actress Savitri in the biographical era. He received praise for playing a photographer with charm and quick going.
Next release of Deverakonda in 2018 was the romantic comedy of Geetha Arts, Geetha Govindam, in which he acted as an naive and anxious college professor. After an aggressive role in Arjun Reddy, Deverakonda received praise for playing a subtle, boy-next-door Character. His next film was the Tamil political thriller NOTA, directed by Iru Mugan-fame Anand Shankar, released on 5 October.
It performed poorly at the box office. His next film was the ghost action thriller Taxiwala by UV Creations in which Vijay stumbles across from Priyanka Jawalkar on a car in custody. In 2019 Deverakonda was seen again alongside Rashmika Mandanna in Bharat Kamma's Close Comrade, a romantic action drama. His next feature is the love drama of Kranthi Madhav called World Famous Lover opposite.
Next he will be seen in Hero, a Telugu film which will also be dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam. Anand Annamalai, co-writer of films such as Kuttramae Thandanai and Kaakka Muttai will direct the script. The film see Malavika Mohanan essaying the role of love interest in Vijay. Vijay will take on a biker role in this movie.
Deverakonda was ranked 72 in the 2018 Forbes India Celebrity 100 list. Film Companion listed Deverakonda's performance in Arjun Reddy among the 100 Best Achievements of the Decade in 2019. Deverakonda made his Hindi acting debut with Fighter created by Karan Johar. The film was directed by Puri Jagannadh in January 2020 and went on floors.
King of the Hill Entertainment:
Deverakonda is the director of King of the Hill Entertainment, a film production company. His debut feature, Meeku Maathrame Cheptha was released in November 2019.

Deverakonda introduced its apparel brand 'Rowdy Wear' on Myntra e-commerce site on 11 February 2020. He has been brand manager of Zomato's food delivery app.
