Rashmika Mandanna can take legal action against 'deepfake video'

Over the past few days, a particular video has gone viral. In the video, we see someone who looks exactly like Rashmika Mandanna rushing out of a lift and saying 'Hi' to a few unseen individuals. The woman in the video is seen wearing a revealing outfit.

Turns out that the woman in the viral video is not Rashmika at all. It is the deepfake of one Zara Patel, a British-Indian. Sharing both the original video and the deepfake video, a Twitter user wrote, "There is an urgent need for a legal and regulatory framework to deal with deepfake in India. You might have seen this viral video of actress Rashmika Mandanna on Instagram. But wait, this is a deepfake video of Zara Patel. The original video is of Zara Patel, a British-Indian girl with 415K followers on Instagram. She uploaded this video on Instagram on 9 October," he wrote.

Quote-tweeting the tweet, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan opined that it is a fit case for legal action by Rashmika. The question is, will the 'Pushpa 2' and 'Animal' actress take legal action?

Deepfake videos are generated with the help of AI. If the misuse of AI is not regulated, chances are that it is going to get worse in the coming years.
