Harish Shankar seems to be unhappy with Venkatesh Maha's recent outbursts against 'KGF'. Speaking at an event on Friday, the 'Gabbar Singh' director opined that there is no need to insult commercial cinema.
"I am a thorough commercial director. Yet, I love 'Sagarasangamam' a lot. People who love commercial movies also made films like 'Shankarabharanam' blockbusters. 'Balagam' has moved commercial filmmakers like Anil Ravipudi, Vamsi Paidipally and Trinadha Rao Nakkina to tears. Cinema is cinema. There is no need to upgrade one type of film and degrade others," the 'Ustaad Bhagat Singh' maker said.
In an indirect lecture to Venkatesh Maha, Harish Shankar said that 'mass', 'class' and 'commercial' are not relevant as far as the audience are concerned. "They watch films that engage them. 'Seethakoka Chilaka' didn't have gravity-defying fights. The mass audience watched it," he noted, advising his colleagues not to indulge in "divisive" debates.
