Debate: Do Telugus care about Vijay, Ajith?

The fans of Vijay and Ajith are said to be unhappy that their favourite stars don't promote their movies in non-Tamil languages despite their potential. Vijay is not visiting Hyderabad to promote his April 13th release 'Beast'.

It is held that Thalapathy, as Vijay is fondly called, is wasting a grand opportunity to widen his market in the Telugu States. But the question to be asked is this: Do the Telugus really care?

It's true that 'Sarkar', 'Master' and 'Whistle' did well in the Telugu States. Their collections were better than what many medium-range Tollywood star heroes' movies make at times. But their success was purely driven by content and the timing of their release.

Ajith's movies haven't fared well at all for years. Most of his movies have lacked Telugu nativity. 'Valimai' had tender chances of doing well but 'Bheemla Nayak' spoiled the party.

Ask any college-goer or family audience from the Telugu States and you will discover that they have no special liking for the movies of Vijay and Ajith. Rajinikanth, Suriya, Karthi, Vikram and Kamal Haasan command liking among the Telugu audience. And the size of the loyal audiences that the last four stars command is also not great.
