During the MAA elections in March 2019, Hema and VK Naresh were on the same side. Hema was an EC member, while Naresh became the President. Within days, there cropped up differences between them. Hema accused Naresh of taking decisions unilaterally without consulting the 26 EC members. Naresh was accused of not letting Hema speak at an event, when her mic was snatched away in plain public sight by Naresh.
The Hema vs. Naresh fight is back ahead of this year's MAA elections. Recently, Naresh and Karate Kalyani gave interviews to some YouTube channels. Hema has alleged that they have made false accusations against her. In a police complaint, as reported by Times Of India, Hema has alleged that the Naresh-Kalyani duo have resorted to character assassination.
If the police believe on the basis of a legal opinion that Hema's character has been assassinated, Naresh and Kalyani will face a defamation case.
