'Alluri' is set to hit the cinemas on September 23. Sree Vishnu plays a fictionalized police officer in this film based on real-life incidents. In this interview, the 'Raja Raja Chora' and 'Arjuna Phalguna' actor talks about the film, its director Pradeep Varma, producer Bekkem Venugopal of Lucky Media, and more.
My character in the film derives inspiration from the personality of Alluri Sitaramaraju. In the climax of Superstar Krishna garu's 'Alluri Sitaramaraju', he says that if one Alluri is martyred, hundreds of Alluris are going to be born. Our Alluri is one such Alluri.
This is a police story. The entire film is based on true incidents. But the central character itself is fictional. The story chronicles the entire journey of a cop from the time he gets into the police service to the first 15 years of his service.
Director Pradeep Varma approached me with the entire story. I came to know about the inspirations behind the scenes while doing the film. 'Alluri' explores the police system in depth. We have shown both good and bad in the police system. And we have also offered solutions to the negatives. I have got to meet a lot of cops in the past 15 days during the promotions. Kudos to their services to society.
This story came my way five years ago. My prior commitments and the pandemic delayed things. After doing this film, I feel like reacting to a lot of incidents around me.
I have known Allu Arjun garu for about 15 years. He is frank in giving his feedback on my films. All along, I never sought any help from him. For the first time, I requested something from him. He accepted my request and attended the pre-release event of 'Alluri'. I did so because this film is special to me. My film titles have had an 'AA' connection with the exception of 'Gali Sampath'. I revealed the same at the pre-release event because it was overwhelming to receive the love of his fans. Nani and Ravi Teja garu have also supported me.
I have to believe in the story for me to give my all to a film. 'Needi Naadi Okate Katha', 'Appatlo Okadu', 'Brochevarevarura' and 'Raja Raja Chora' had strong content. They were translated well onto the screen. I had a strong connect with those scripts and it showed. 'Alluri' features superb action blocks. It took us time to mount them. We completed the shoot in 90 days. If the audience love 'Alluri', we are going to make a sequel.
I am planning a film in association with a European team. It will be directed by a Telugu guy only. Scripting work is on. It's a good project with a universal appeal. I am doing three films currently. One of them is directed by Hasith Goli of 'Raja Raja Chora' fame. Another one is directed by a newcomer named Sai. 'Husharu' fame Harsha is directing the third one.
