'Manchi Rojulochaie' will head to theatres on November 4. In this interview, music director Anup Rubens talks about the movie, working with director Maruthi, the songs in the entertainer, and more.
I like Maruthi garu's movies, which are entertaining, positive and lively. This film came my way during the lockdown. He said that the film is a quickie and would go on the floors within a month. Right a day after the lockdown ended, the film went on the floors. By then, we started song composition and worked non-stop for weeks on end. The production works were completed in 30 days. Since Maruthi garu wanted to release the movie only in theatres, he has waited for many months despite finishing the project.
The film was supposed to be a small one but it became a big project eventually. Maruthi garu didn't want to direct it at first. As the scale of the movie increased, he took up the megaphone.
The story takes place in a housing colony. People have different kinds of fears. Fear is at the core of Ajay Ghosh's character. He panics too much and comes across as the paranoid people we see in our circles. Some people are too phobic and go through too much fear. Maruthi garu's specialty lies in narrating realistic themes in an entertaining manner.
Once a music director listens to the story and gets drawn into it, he gets into a mood. 'Manchi Rojulochaie' is a feel-good movie, whose music had to be composed at home due to the lockdown. There are five songs in total. 'So So Ga', rendered by Sid Sriram, is my favourite. I gave three tunes to the director and he picked my favourite one. Lyricists KK, Anantha Sriram and Kasarla Shyam have penned the songs.
I give the tune based on the director's inputs and the lyrics follow the tune. I am also working on 'Bangarraju' these days. It takes equal effort for all films. But when you are working on a star hero film, the responsibility is more.
'Manchi Rojulochaie' is both a fun-filled entertainer and an emotional drama. Both are in parallel. Composing the BGM, therefore, was a different experience.
I have worked with a lot of filmmakers. Maruthi garu is one of the best technicians. He is very happy with the output. It was great working with producer SKN garu as well. He is passionate and experienced. He has been in the film industry for many years. I have to thank him for the opportunity. The songs have already become a hit. It's a feel-good entertainer that will leave the audience in a happy mood.
I always aim to do full justice to my job, whether it is a big film or a small one. Work is work, big or small. I work hard even on small films. I don't regret when opportunities don't come my way. I am enjoying composing for 'Bangarraju' and it's a big responsibility because the album of 'Soggade Chinni Nayana' was such a big hit. About half the work is done.
These days, audiences are not bothered about whether a song features a star hero or otherwise. The huge success of the album '30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela' proved it. In recent times, the openings for small movies have been on par with big movies.
