Is One Battle After Another a hit or a flop? Find out

One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti, was released in theatres recently. The acclaimed movie, however, is turning out to be a flop.

It's the most expensive film of director Paul Thomas Anderson's career by far, and a major gamble for its makers. With a reported budget of over $130 million (some sources say up to $175 million), it's a massive investment for a film that isn't a sequel, reboot, or based on a pre-existing blockbuster franchise.

One Battle After Another is currently viewed as a flop at the box office. Its $22–25 million domestic opening weekend fell short of expectations for a $130 million production, especially with a reported breakeven target around $200 million globally. Analysing the underwhelming BO performance of the movie, a trade analyst wrote, "Its nearly three-hour R-rated runtime, niche political action-dramedy genre, and DiCaprio's evolving star power at age 50 explain why it is not performing well on the commercial front."
