OTT subscribers are subsidising Nepo babies like Suhana Khan, Aryan Khan

OTT platforms, especially Netflix and Prime Video, are increasingly used as the primary launch vehicle for actors and creators with famous parentage. There are numerous upcoming and recently released projects featuring children of major stars, such as Suhana Khan (daughter of Shah Rukh Khan), Khushi Kapoor (daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor), and Agastya Nanda (grandson of Amitabh Bachchan) in films released on Netflix. Aryan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan's son) also made his debut as a writer/director for a Netflix series (titled The Bads of Bollywood) that satirizes the industry and nepotism itself.

The casting of nepo babies is a global trend on OTT. Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman) in Netflix's Stranger Things, Lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins) in Netflix's Emily in Paris, and Jack Quaid (son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan) in Prime Video's The Boys are notable examples. Kate Hudson (daughter of Goldie Hawn) and Chet Hanks (son of Tom Hanks) starred together in the Netflix comedy Running Point.

On social media, all of this is leading to a backlash from a section of viewers. Peeleraja, a social media user, says that the hard-earned money of subscribers has been used lately to "subsidize nepo kids".
He further adds, "Your money spent on Narcos and The Queen's Gambit are being diverted by Netflix to subsidize the lifestyles of worthless Khan and Kapoor parasites. Think about it. When was the last time you saw a good Indian show on Netflix?"
