Starting June 17th, 2025, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. All Amazon Prime users in India have been notified about it.
A new ad-free add-on option will be available for an additional Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month, starting on June 17th, 2025. There will be no other changes to the Prime membership benefits, which will continue to include shopping, savings, and entertainment.
"This change is intended to allow Amazon to continue investing in compelling content. Amazon aims to have meaningfully fewer ads than traditional TV channels and other streaming services. No action is required from current Prime members, and there will be no change to the current price of their Prime membership," the statement reads.
The customer base of Prime are unhappy with the news. While the OTT platform wants to improve its revenues, users want hassle-free viewing experience at a limited subscription rate.
