Speaking at a political rally on Friday night, Pawan Kalyan asked why Tamilians dub their movies into Hindi when they don't want to learn Hindi in their own State. The actor-politician accused Tamilians of hypocrisy, saying that they want the money of Biharis and UPites but don't want to learn the mother tongue of the people they materially benefit from.
Pawan Kalyan's speech has become a hot topic on Tamil social media, with most Tamilians saying that the Telugu superstar-turned-politician doesn't understand the nuances of the language debate. "His logic fails. Hindi filmmakers, too, dub their films in Tamil. The business goes both ways. Convince our people about the merits of learning Hindi. But if you try to shove it down our throat, we won't take it kindly," a Tamilian wrote on social media.
Another Tamilian remarked that Pawan Kalyan lacks clarity. "There is a difference between imposing and learning or understanding a language. When people watch movies, there is choice involved," a Netizen wrote.
Since Pawan Kalyan spoke about dubbed movies, aged Kollywood personalities might react in the coming days. But young Tamil actors and happening producers will be circumspect to avoid controversies - after all, they dub their movies into Telugu as well.
