From Pawan Kalyan to Vijay: The Enduring Power of the Unseen Star

Recently, American actor Michael B. Jordan of Sinners fame revealed that Denzel Washington had once advised him to stay offline to avoid overexposing himself to audiences. His logic? “Why would they pay to see you on a weekend if they see you all week for free?”

This is a fair enough assessment. There was once a time when Pawan Kalyan's magnetism was intact because nobody saw him anywhere other than in films. In the age of social media, most film celebrities have been inclined to post their vacation pics, etc. In Tamil, only Vijay and Ajith have been able to avoid overexposure. "Denzel Washington dropped a truth bomb most influencers can’t process: If your soul’s on display 24/7, don’t be shocked when they treat it like background noise. Mystery builds magnetism. Silence sells. Even gods don’t speak every day," wrote a Netizen.

But not everyone agrees with this view. "This is an outdated idea. There is no such thing as overexposure. The news companies put out garbage 24 hours a day and no one says they are overexposed, yet people claim you are overexposed if you post 20 times a day on social media," argued another Netizen. The fact remains: Pawan Kalyan was most enigmatic when he avoided public appearances till around 2008 or so.
