Speaking at an event related to her upcoming movie, Paradha, actress Anupama Parameswaran complained that heroine-oriented movies don't do business easily despite their merits. Paradha was finished one year ago but had to wait in the labs to find business. Finally, it is releasing in theaters on August 22.
Anupama's pain is understandable but her arguments stand on weak grounds. Most female-centric movies have failed to fetch profits. If even OTT platforms avoid them, there has to be a reason. It is likely that Anushka Shetty's Ghaati, too, has repeatedly been postponed for a similar reason, although UV Creations has maintained that its VFX works are pending.
In recent years, films like Keerthy Shetty's Good Luck Sakhi have drawn abysmal numbers. The Mahanati actress' female-centric movies have ceased to entertain theatrical hopes. The themes these films deal with are familiar. The treatment is boring. Why would the audience want to watch them in a theatre?
Paradha is going to face competition from August releases like Jr NTR-Hrithik Roshan's War 2, Rajinikanth's Coolie, and Ravi Teja's Mass Jathara.
