Nobody is inspired to watch comedian Dhanraj's Ramam Raghavam

Comedian Dhanraj is debuting as a director with Ramam Raghavam. The film's theatrical release is just a few days away. Samuthirakani plays a doting father, while Dhanraj himself plays a wayward, insensitive, selfish son.

Small-scale, melodramatic family dramas of this sort carry no buzz in Telugu. Even ten years ago, a film belonging to the sob genre wouldn't have elicited any interest. The Trailer of Ramam Raghavam is so TV serial-ish that you would wonder what pushed them to release such a colossally teary promotional video in the first place. Dhanraj looks gloomy. Samuthirakani looks sad. Everyone around them looks like they have no hopes.

About three years ago, Dhanraj's fellow comedian-colleague, Venu Yeldandi, scored an unexpected hit in the form of Balagam. While Balagam was a family dramedy, its sensibility was rare. Ramam Raghavam doesn't seem to have no redeeming features.
