Comedies in the post-2010 Telugu cinema have been defined by lack of originality. Unless proven otherwise, they have to be seen as uncreative. And those duds that misuse the talents of comedians like Vennela Kishore are guilty of worse - they are not just uncreative but also annoying.
'Sreekakulam Sherlock Holmes' is one such film, ticking all the wrong boxes. Its Teaser makes sure we don't stay invested even for sixty seconds straight. The titular character starts investigating a murder mystery, but his language is borrowed. His demeanour is uneven.
The writers/directors of crime comedies sometimes tend to forget the basics. Their lead characters feel ill at ease with the seriousness that surrounds them. Probably, 'Sreekakulam Sherlock Holmes' was meant to be another 'Jathi Ratnalu' but the characters/actors around Vennela Kishore's character don't seem silly, making the whole genre underutilized. Also starring Ananya Nagalla, Siya Gowtam, Ravi Teja Mahadasyam, and Muralidhar Goud, the film is directed by Writer Mohan.
