Why did Jr NTR's 'Ramayya Vasthavayya' flop? Director analyzes

'Ramayya Vasthavayya' was released in theatres in October 2013. Jr NTR was joined by Shruti Haasan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Ravi Shankar, Mukesh Rishi, Kota Srinivasa Rao and others played other roles.

In his latest interview, director Harish Shankar attributed the film's failure to the main antagonist dying in the interval sequence. "After that, there is nothing much to be had in the story. The audience found it pointless," the 'Mr. Bachchan' maker said.

At the time of the movie's release, though, many felt that the main plot of the story takes off from the interval, with the first half offering mere filler scenes. Had the screenplay been interesting in the second half, the interval block wouldn't have been a minus at all.

For many years, 'Ramayya Vasthavayya' was one of the very few movies from producer Dil Raju to not do well. Harish Shankar's over-confidence after 'Mirapakay' and 'Gabbar Singh' did him in.
