Was Kiran Abbavaram really insulted?

On Monday, at the Teaser launch event of 'KA', a journalist asked Kiran Abbavaram what made him believe he could do a pan-Indian project when he hasn't had a proper hit in Telugu.

The tone and tenor of the questioning by the journalist have been deemed unwarranted by social media users. Netizens are trolling the journalist for being condescending in the way he asked the question. "Kiran was clearly insulted and slighted," Netizens said.

But was Kiran really insulted? While the framing of the question lacked sophistication and the tenor of the questioning could have been respectful, it is a fact that Kiran is yet to become a star in Telugu. 'SR Kalyanamandapam' and 'Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha' must be the only safe projects he has had after his debut movie earned critical acclaim. Also, most of the pan-Indian films starring non-star heroes have remained pan-Indian only on paper in the last 2-3 years.

In Kiran's defence, he is relying on content rather than himself. "Did we know Rishab Shetty when 'Kantara' was made a hit? Who knows the names of the actors of 'Manjummel Boys'?" he suggested.
