Akshay Kumar's String of Disasters Raises Eyebrows

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, known for consistently delivering high-grossing films before the Covid-19 pandemic, has seen a string of lower opening day collections in his releases since 2021.

'Sarfira' (his latest release), 'Mission Raniganj', and 'Selfie' opened below the Rs 5 Cr mark at the worldwide box office. This is a significant drop compared to his past track record of films regularly exceeding a much bigger figure in the past. The amount quoted is in Gross BO terms. Of the three films, two are remakes.

'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', which was made on a massive budget, flopped miserably last year. It minted Rs 31 Cr on the opening day but collapsed later on.

To make matters worse, there is an orchestrated online campaign against Akshay Kumar. Many social media handles are shaming him for allegedly not giving enough dates for his films despite charging a super-high fee. "He believes in quantity, not quality. He chooses safe scripts. He trods the beaten path. He lacks focus. He has failed to understand the changing tastes of the audience in the post-pandemic era," a Twitter user wrote.
