Netflix has always been seen as the most expensive OTT platform by subscribers. This perception has become stronger in the era of Jio Cinema, which is offering its most promising content for free.
In December 2021, Netflix famously reduced subscription prices to expand its base. Its mobile-only plan was made available for Rs 149. The basic plan was made available for Rs 199.
Did the slashing of prices help the streaming giant? Did Indians start showing more interest in it after the price cut? Turns out that the news is positive for Netflix. "Lowering prices by 20-60% to deepen reach in India helped us grow engagement by almost 30% year-on-year," Ted Sarandos of Netflix recently said.
He has also been quoted as saying that foreign exchange-neutral revenue growth in 2022 accelerated to 24% versus 19% in 2021.
