'Amigos': Is it the title? Or, is it the content that is poor?

'Amigos' reportedly couldn't gross more than Rs 5 Cr in its first weekend. Mythri Movie Makers won't mind the flop much, considering the banner is sitting pretty because of the two Sankranthi releases: 'Waltair Veerayya' and 'Veera Simha Reddy'. Nandamuri Kalyan Ram may have been disappointed with the lukewarm response, though. 'Bimbisara' hasn't surely conferred failure-proof results for him.

There is this view in the film industry that 'Amigos' came a cropper mainly because of its inaccessible title. Choosing a foreign-language term as the title might have alienated a good section of the audience, the view goes. Those who choose such urbane titles in the future will be wary after Amigos' failure.

But there are others who feel that the film's fate was sealed right on the day its trailer was out. The thriller looked unambitious and colourless. Until the remix of 'Enno Ratrulostayi' was released, nobody was familiar with the film's album either.

Content-wise, 'Amigos' lost the plot in a number of ways. It should have been a tight, sincere thriller right from the start. The hero-heroine track made the audience believe that the film was desperate to entertain them.
