Not that SS Rajamouli needs defenders. But some of his admirers surely have the urge to defend him against snobbish elites for whom 'RRR' is a worthless movie that doesn't deserve international acclaim. Leftists have especially been critical of the movie, accusing it of disrespecting the tribal culture and promoting Hindu nationalist views.
One film personality who has openly come out in defense of Rajamouli in this scenario is Shobu Yarlagadda, who is silent during film events but eloquent on Twitter. He is genuinely proud of his 'Baahubali' director winning acclaim in the West during the ongoing Oscar campaign of 'RRR'.
In his latest tweet, Shobu opined that some "intellectuals" are unable to digest Rajamouli's rise. "Some self-proclaimed "intellectuals" can't digest global recognition for films and filmmakers that they turned their nose up! They keep digging and digging for more stuff to prove they are intellectual and know better than most!" he wrote.
If you notice, these "intellectuals" disregard films that boast style, mainstream music and action only when made by Indians. They go gaga over (boring) superhero movies made by Hollywood, though.
