Twist! 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is not a loss project

The media narrative has been that 'Laal Singh Chaddha' has turned out to be a terrible money-guzzler, and that its producers Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Jyoti Deshpande, and Ajit Andhare are in a fix. This is a perception that may not be true at all.

Producer Ajit Andhare of Viacom 18 on Monday dismissed the rumour that the film's so-called distributors are exerting humongous pressure on the four producers to part with their monies to compensate them for the "gigantic losses". The affair has reminded many Telugu Netizens of the 'Acharya' debacle.

But, unlike 'Acharya', 'LSC' was not released by external distributors. Viacom 18 has made it clear that no external distributors had bought the movie in the first place for them to make losses. In other words, it's an "own release" for the most part. Viacom 18, so also Aamir Khan, is safe. The film's non-theatrical revenue, especially from OTT rights, is solid. Also, its Overseas business is respectable, softening the blow suffered by the film due to its dismal run in India.
