With Prakash Raj running for MAA President, a celeb recently commented that he shouldn't do so because he is not a Teluguite. Saying that the non-local sentiment doesn't wash, Ram Gopal Varma has come to the versatile actor's defence.

In a series of tweets, RGV said that Prakash Raj has not only been staying in Hyderabad for several years but has also learned Telugu. He added that the actor has even adopted a village in Telangana. The director said that Prakash Raj has even promoted Telugu literature penned by Chalam.

RGV said that calling him a non-local person is a comment against India. The director went on to say that a lot of people, such as Bruce Lee and Michael Jackson, we love are not localites. Varma added that the likes of NTR and ANR were non-local people in Madras.
