Shankar says he has all rights over 'Anniyan'

After producer Aascar Ravichandran said that Shankar has no right to remake 'Anniyan' in Hindi, the director has responded in a befitting manner. In a long statement, the 'I' and 'Robot' maker said that he has complete right to exploit 'Anniyan' the way he deems fit because its story was written by him.

While Ravichandran had said that the story of 'Anniyan' was written by late Sri Sujatha, Shankar said that Sujatha had written the film's dialogues but not its story. As such, said Shankar, he can remake it in Hindi.

In his statement, Ravichandran said that he had purchased the story rights directly from Sujatha. Going by Shankar's words, that is not the case.

The Hindi remake, which will go on the floors in mid-2022, stars Ranveer Singh as the hero. He is going to reprise Virkam.

For now, the controversy is a developing story. 'Anniyan' is known to the Telugu audience as 'Aparichitudu', which became a big hit in 2005.
