It's been exactly 20 years since a dynamic, dashing director made his entry into Tollywood. Puri Jagannadh, the man known for his energetic hero characterizations and creating mass hysteria with his sharp, witty dialogues, has completed 2 decades in Telugu film industry.
Puri Jagannadh's first movie, 'Badri', starring 'Power Star' Pawan Kalyan, was released on 20th April, 2000. It was a memorable hit for Pawan Kalyan and Puri. The film's dialogues, songs (composed by Ramana Gogula) were big hits with the youth then. "Nuvvu Nanda Aithe nenu badri Badrinath" dialogue, "Ye Chikitha', 'Bangala Kathamlo" songs are heard even now. It was on the sets of Badri that Pawan Kalyan met his future wife Renu Desai.
Puri Jagannadh made a big impact on the youth with the films that followed. His heroes are known for their energy and dare-devilry. He made Ravi Teja, who was doing small and character roles, a big star by giving him back to back hits. 'Pokiri' turned out to be an industry hit, breaking many records and 'Prince' Mahesh Babu became 'Superstar' Mahesh. He had shown a new Allu Arjun in 'Deshamuduru'. Six-pack was introduced in Tollywood with that movie. 'Temper' turned out to be a comeback movie for Jr NTR. 'iSmart Shankar' is Ram Pothineni's career biggest hit.
After a personal setback, when he lost all that he earned in his life, he directed Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan in 'Bbduddah Hoga Tera Baap' and made a grand comeback. He has seen ups and downs in life and his philosophy for life is liked by the youth.
Currently, Puri Jagannadh is directing Vijay Devarakonda in a movie, which is tentatively titled 'Fighter'. It will be a Pan-Indian movie, produced by Karan Johar of Dharma Movies.
