Inaugural Session
Creating awareness about implementing Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) effectively, the Faculty of Science at St. Francis College for Women in collaboration with American Corner, Hyderabad, is organizing a one week International Conference on STEM Education and Faculty Development from 6th to 11th November.
The Inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by the college prayer.
The Principal, Dr. Sr. Christine Fernandes congratulated the collaborated effort of the thirteen science departments and expressed gratitude to American Corner, Hyderabad and NMDC, the conference’s primary Co-Sponsors.
Ms. Alina Jyothi, HOD of Chemistry and also the Conveyer of the conference briefed the audience about the proceedings of the six day event, which include technical sessions by both national and international speakers and poster presentations, a workshop on Miracle – Nutri cereals- Millets and a field trip to IICT and NGRI.
A souvenir was then released by the chief guest of the event, Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad.
In his key note, Prof . Appa Rao emphasized the importance of the STEM education awareness, development of faculty, and online education. He spoke on nanotechnology and its approach to plant defense.
The Guest of Honour, Mrs.G.Uma Devi, Deputy Director, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad, congratulated the college for its five decades of contribution towards empowering women's education. She also shared her experience and research with the gathering.
Dr. Sr.Christine Fernandes released “PRISM”, the first e-news letter by SPECTRUM the science club of the college.
The inaugural concluded with sharing of thoughts by various invitees followed by the vote of thanks.
