(Pharmexcil) is an exclusive Pharmaceuticals export promotion council. The council is set up by Ministry of commerce, government of India, under its foreign trade policy by a DGFT Notification in the year 2004.
Since then the council has been functioning as a Nodal agency liaising between the industry and the government. Council relates from time to time industry's views and issues they encounter while conducting their exports to the government for a possible solutions.
Council conducts Trade delegations to different countries as per the need of the markets.
It also organizes Buyer seller meets abroad as well as in India.
Besides, it conducts periodic seminars/meetings on export related issues, Pharmaceutical regulatory updates and also sometimes on finer issues in other areas of Pharmaceutical business.
In the year 2016-17, Pharmaceutical exports has touched $ 16.84 billion. This is in spite of the downtrend in pricing issue our exporters have faced from almost September 2016 in US market and in the backdrop of an exceptional performance of Fy-16 due to two block buster products going off patent in that year. Generic Drug (finished dosage formulations) was the third largest principal commodity exported during 2016-17. Pharmaceuticals, as a whole, (Bulk drugs, Drug Formulations & Biologicals, Herbals & Ayush, Surgicals) contributed 6.1 % to the total India's Exports during Fy-17. USA has been the largest destination of India's Pharmaceutical exports for over a decade and during Fy-17 over 33% of India's total pharma exports was directed to it amounting to $ 5580 million. Over 55% of India's Pharma exports are to highly regulated/developed markets.
Pharmexcil is celebrating its 13 Anniversary of its inception and as a part of its celebration it has conducted the following events.
1) A seminar on "Risk management strategy for Pharma Industry going forward" was held.
2) A round Table conference on "Product development & Process Improvements In bulk drug industry" was conducted, where in the ways and means, our national scientific Labs could coordinate with the industry was discussed.
Both the events were attended by scientific experts and director of CSIR, IICT and other national scientific institutes along with experts on the subjects of the industry.
Council also held its general body meeting.
A CEO conclave was held in the evening. The conclave's theme being "Need of the hour to sustain the positive growth of Indian pharma industry"

Later in the evening it was followed by the annual award function in which it has honored some of the top performers of the industry in different categories of Pharmaceutical exports. The awards were given away by the Chief Guest Shri shyamal Misra, joint secretary, department of commerce.
