'1997', starring Dr. Mohan, Naveen Chandra and Srikanth Iyengar in lead roles, will head to the theatres on November 26. Directed by Dr. Mohan himself, the film is produced by Eshwara Parvathi Movies. In this interview, actor Srikanth Iyengar talks about his character, why the movie is important, his competitors in the industry, and more.

'1997' is a hard-hitting movie. Currently, our system is rotten. We see caste-based atrocities, we see racism, we see religious supremacist thinking everywhere. The lower castes are discriminated. At the same time, their women are lusted by some people. We have seen the incident of a woman being burnt down after being raped. '1997' exposes the flaws in our system.

I have played the role of a corrupted cop in the movie, which shows the kind of wretched people we have in our society. I have played a really savage, lowly cop.

'1997' is not about caste differences. It's about how man has forgotten that he is a human. It talks about the politics of dominance and exploitation.

Dr Mohan garu has played a lead role. He is a nice person and has produced the movie without compromising on quality. He hasn't shown the airs of a hero.

I got my first break when I was 47. 'Brochevarevaru Ra' proved to be a boon. Since then, I have played a variety of roles, be it positive or negative.

I am getting good offers but my competitors are three acting giants: Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, and Murali Sharma. They are at the top of the game. I am a fan of Prakash Raj and Kamal Haasan.

Ram Gopal Varma garu is my godfather. When I had no work during the pandemic, he gave me two offers.

Coming to '1997', its dialogues are going to click with the audience big-time. There are no punches for the sake of it. Everything is driven by the situation. Naveen Chandra has got a very good role.

I am open to playing all kinds of roles. I will not play three roles, though: child artist, heroine, and hero.
