AP Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh stated that government support is essential for the survival of the film industry. He emphasized that if exhibitors, distributors, and producers come together in a united manner, the government is ready to ensure "fair and favorable decisions for everyone without causing difficulties to any party".
He clarified that it is not the government’s intention to seek meetings with film personalities. "Our government is fully committed to formulating a new film policy for the development of the film industry. An inquiry is underway under the leadership of the Principal Secretary of the Home Department regarding the recent proposal to shut down theatres from June 1 (the decision has since been called off)," the Minister said. He reiterated that the government prioritizes the interests of workers in the industry, the rights of artists, and the preferences of the public. He warned that any actions aimed at destabilizing the film industry will not be tolerated. Controversies arising around the time of the release of Power Star's films has been a recurring feature, the Minister alleged.
The government wants to avoid a situation where film producers make case-by-case appeals to the state government over ticket rates for their movies. Also, bureaucrats can't afford to waste their energies over legal issues emanating from PILs. He clarified that the government is allowing the hike in ticket prices solely for the development of the film industry. He emphasized that they are ready to make decisions in a way that doesn't inconvenience exhibitors, distributors, or producers.
The Kootami has no intent to disrespect or trouble heroes and others. Durgesh questioned why some people in the industry, with unclear motives, are claiming they can solve their problems independently. He said if filmmakers had clarified their position when the theater shutdown issue arose, the current situation could have been avoided.
The Minister also warned a former YSRCP minister who, he alleged, is attempting to gain political mileage by distorting facts. Expressing anger, he said that the former minister is speaking irresponsibly and questioned his sense of basic humanity. He criticized the minister for making flippant remarks about Hari Hara Veera Mallu, a film based on a freedom fighter, calling it a flop even before its release. He asked, “How is that justifiable?”
