Hindi film faces a Rs 60 crore damages suit from PVR-Inox

Recently, a Hindi film titled Bhool Chuk Maaf cancelled its theatrical release owing to Indo-Pak tensions. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film will be directly streaming on OTT, entirely bypassing a theatrical release. The decision, however, has not gone down well with a national multiplex chain, which has now sued the makers of the film for Rs 60 crore.

"PVR-Inox has sued Maddock Films for damages of Rs. 60 crore for non-playability of the latter’s ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’. According to the multiplex chain, Maddock Films suddenly cancelled the film’s release (scheduled for May 9) from cinemas on account of poor advance booking," wrote trade analyst Komal Nahta.

If Maddock Films has violated any agreement with PVR-Inox, there could ensue a legal battle.

Here is what the Bollywood banner stated recently while announcing the calling off of theatrical release: "In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16, only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first."
