Kshana Kshanam was director Ram Gopal Varma's second directorial. Released in 1991, it was led by Venkatesh and Sridevi.
Situational comedy, a fresh storyline, awesome performances, great music by MM Keeravani, and RGV's unique directorial sense. Yet, the movie flopped? Why so?
The film's genre was ahead of its time. It was a road comedy heist film. In a recent interview, writer Thota Prasad analyzed that the audience were expecting a violent film from RGV after a trend-setting classic like Siva. "The audience were not prepared for an adventure comedy kinda film. They didn't expect scenes like Sridevi's character making fun of Venkatesh. They were surprised to find Paresh Rawal doing (deadpan) comedy," Thota Prasad said.
While Kshana Kshanam might have not minted profits, it went on to secure five state Nandi Awards, including Best Direction, Best Screenplay, and a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu to Sridevi.
