Kalki 2 release: Nag Ashwin has left it to planets

Days after the theatrical release of Kalki 2898 AD last year, producer C Aswini Dutt hinted that the movie's sequel would hit the cinemas earlier than expected. Since then, the release date has been moved by three years. It has been believed that the sequel will head to theatres in 2028.

Nag Ashwin has put the ball in the court of planetary motions lately. “Last time, I said Kalki 2898 AD would release when 3-4 planets align. Now, I might release its sequel when 7-8 planets align," the director said at an awards event in a lighter vein.

In March, Nag Ashwin confirmed that Prabhas will enjoy the greatest screen space in Kalki 2. He reasoned that the first edition didn't have much space for him because it was all about exploring and setting up the histories of Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan). As a result, Karna (Prabhas) had to be introduced only towards the end. Now that Karna has been introduced (rather controversial because the antihero was elevated to the level of a hero), Kalki 2 will get to the actual business of Bhairava and Karna, both played by Prabhas. “The second installment will have more of Prabhas, as its plot centers on the two characters," the Mahanati maker said.
